Weymouth plans Olympic celebrations


Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy are planning a major celebration of the success of Great Britain's Olympic Classes sailors with a victory tour of Weymouth and Portland on Monday 1st September.

Members of Skandia Team GBR's triumphant sailing team, including Weymouth-based Sarah Ayton and Paul Goodison and Sherborne's Andrew Simpson, will be welcomed home by the Mayor of Weymouth and Portland Cllr Tim Munro for the tour which begins at 1300 in Weymouth town centre where the athletes will take an open top bus around the town before heading out to Portland and the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

Following the tour a press conference and photo call will be conducted at the Academy with the sailors as well as the Chief Executive of the 2012 sailing venue.

The itinerary for the day will be as follows:

13:00 Open top bus tour through Weymouth town centre
14:10 The bus leaves the town centre for Portland Heights hotel
15:00 The bus leaves for the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy
15:10 Press conference and photo call at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

The sailors will also open the Southampton Boat Show.
