Skipper fined for violating Channel TSS
Magistrates have fined a motor boat skipper £6,000 for sailing the wrong way along a Dover Straits shipping lane. Lee Choat was delivering a 36ft motor cruiser from Brighton to the River Crouch when the incident took place on 5th March this year.
Coastguards tried to contact the boat for about 50 minutes as it travelled north east along the south west shipping lane for 15 miles before re-entering the Inshore Traffic Zone. Kaimes Beasley, Channel Navigation Information Service Manager at Dover Coastguard said that Mr Choat put himself and other users of the Traffic Separation Scheme at risk.
Safety in the Dover Straits Traffic Separation Scheme is dependant on all vessels, no matter what shape size or description, closely following the requirements of rule 10 of the Colregs.
