Lear boat lands in Europe
You haven't heard of Shanda Lear-Baylor, but you may have heard of her father - Bill Lear, founder of Motorola, inventor of the eight-track tape and designer of the Lear Jet.
Now this daughter of one of the most celebrated businessmen and inventors in US history is over this side of the pond marketing a new electric boat that she and her husband designed and built from scratch.
It's called the Lear 204, and unlike a lot of the electric boats MBM comes across, it's actually quite attractive. The 8ft 5in craft features a retractable hard top that, when the boat's not in use, acts as a secure cover when pulled completely down.
The 36-volt powerplant gives it a max speed of around 6 knots, with a single charge lasting 10 hours. "Europe is very 'green' conscious," Lear-Baylor said. "And we expect it to be a huge market for electric boats."
