Just before finally taking delivery of Clipper Point from Spanish builders Astilleros de Huelva, Seatruck moved to a new phase of its fleet expansion programme by placing a March contract with Germany's Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft for four new generation ro-ro ferries to be delivered between November 2011 and June 2012.

Seatruck Ferries brought in an 11-strong team from Dutch salvage specialist SMIT, to begin preparations to refloat ro-ro freight ferry Riverdance (1977/6,041gt), which grounded off Blackpool in stormy conditions on the night of 1 February.

To celebrate her maritime heritage, Liverpool played host to a group of eight tall ships over the weekend of 16-17 of June. This was a taster event prior to Liverpool hosting the start of the Tall Ships Race in 2008. Due to construction work taking place at the Albert Dock complex, the ships were berthed in the slightly run-down Wellington and Sandon Docks.

Superfast X has been replaced on Superfast Ferries' thrice-weekly Rosyth-Zeebrugge passenger and vehicle service by Blue Star 1 from Blue Star Ferries. The new vessel on the route made her first departure from the Belgian port on 29 January.

The next stage in Tallink's ferry expansion strategy, a shuttle for the Tallinn-Helsinki service, saw the company's new vessel Star christened and floated out on 23 November 2006. Star is a step up in capacity and speed and will shake up the market between the Finnish and Estonian capitals.
