The double christening of Costa Luminosa and Costa Pacifica took place in Genoa on 5 June. The 13th and 14th members of the Costa fleet were inaugurated in style with an aerobatic display from the Tricolori National Aerobatic Team and music of ‘An Italian Portrait in Music and Light’.
No fewer than 4,000 guests attended a gala dinner, and the event was broadcast live on the internet. The ships were christened at exactly the same moment by the Olympic champion fencer Valentina Vezzali, godmother to Costa Luminosa, and recording artist Noa, godmother to Costa Pacifica, with two bottles of Aneri prosecco wine being smashed against the bows.
The two ships are different in size and decor. Costa Luminosa is 92,600gt and carries 2,826 passengers, while Costa Pacifica is larger at 114,500gt and with space for 3,780 passengers.
