Cal Mac Western Isles routes boost

The Road Equivalent Tariff pilot is attracting additional traffic to Caledonian MacBrayne routes, with 23 per cent more cars and 14 per cent passenger growth since the launch of the scheme, which matches sea crossing fares to those for similar distances overland.
While travelling between Uig and Tarbert aboard Cal Mac’s Hebrides, Scotland’s first minister Alex Salmond said his government remained committed to ensuring that all the remote and fragile communities have direct sea links.
