The smallest car ferry in service in the British Isles, Cromarty Rose, which currently operates the ferry between Cromarty and Nigg, has been sold.
She is off to the Bristol Channel to run a service to the privately owned nature reserve island of Steep Holm from Weston Super Mare.
A new ferry is being built by Southampton Marine Services and it will carry 4 cars and 50 passengers.
The 28gt Cromarty Rose was built in 1986 by McCrindle Shipbuilding of Ardrossan. She measures 43ft (13m) by 19.7ft (6m), her speed is 8.5 knots and she carries just two cars and 50 passengers.
She was originally built for Seaboard Marine (Nigg) Ltd and operated for them until 2001.
From then until the present time she has been owned and operated by the Cromarty Ferry Co.
