Norway's Ulstein Verft has delivered the anchor-handling and construction vessel Olympic Hera to domestic operator Olympic Shipping of Fosnavåg.
Built to an Ulstein A122 design, Olympic Hera is a sister to the earlier delivered Olympic Zeus, with both vessels using a hybrid diesel-mechanical/diesel-electric propulsion system in which the propeller can either be driven directly by the diesel engine or by an electric motor. The two modes can also be combined to deliver a bollard pull of approximately 260 tonnes.
To date, it has been found that Olympic Zeus has been running on diesel-electric propulsion for about 80 per cent of the time while employed in the North Sea, using 50 per cent less fuel than a non-hybrid vessel of the same size.
Like Olympic Zeus, Olympic Hera will operate under charter to perform anchor handling, supply, subsea and construction operations in northern Europe and globally.
